If you have driven down Lakewood Main Street any time in the last month, you already know the parking situation has shifted. A new Irish pub is drawing crowds where McGrath's used to sit dark. A sushi space that had been Hana Sushi Lounge is behind paper. And a few miles south on Professional Parkway, three separate construction sites are quietly turning the Sarasota County side of the community into an entertainment district that did not exist a year ago.
For residents who have been here five or ten or twenty years, the pattern is worth naming. Lakewood Ranch is no longer growing outward in one direction. It is filling in three different town-center personalities at once, and each of them is on a different clock.
Main Street Just Got a Pub With Real Conviction
Delany's Public House opened July 23 on Lakewood Main Street, in the former McGrath's space at 8110 Lakewood Main St. The backstory is worth knowing if you are deciding whether to try it on a Friday.
The owners, Tory Delany, her husband Darren Shore, and partner Kevin O'Hanlon, already run the gastropub Allswell in Waterside Place, along with restaurants in New York City including The Malt House and the mezcal-and-tequila bar Mezcali. Delany calls this her eighth restaurant. What sets the space apart is not the concept, it is the sourcing decisions. The owners convinced 10 of their former New York employees to move to Florida to help run it, and they hired two Lakewood Ranch woodworkers who were born in Ireland to build the bar. The sausages, bacon, meats, Irish breads and cheeses come from Ireland, and the front of the pub houses an Irish sweet shop that Delany compares to a deli.

The reason to flag this is the previous track record of the space. Two restaurants — McGrath's and McAllister's — had occupied the spot before, and neither made it long-term. Whether Delany's breaks that pattern is a different question. But the level of investment, from the Derry-sourced furniture to the imported staff, is the kind of thing a resident evaluates when deciding where standing appointments land.
The Kuro Sushi Timeline, in Case You Are Watching That Door
The papered-over storefront at 8126 Lakewood Main St. #102 belongs to Kuro Sushi, which officially opens to the public Nov. 1 following a reservation-only soft opening through Oct. 25 and a Forty Carrots Family Center fundraiser on Oct. 28. It replaces Hana Sushi Lounge.
The operator is not a newcomer. Daniel Dokko owns Kuro Sushi along with JPAN Sushi & Grill in Sarasota's Shops at Siesta Row and University Town Center, and the Korean barbecue spot Korê Steakhouse in Lakewood Ranch's Waterside Place, all under Umami Hospitality Group. That means the same group now anchors sushi and Korean barbecue on both sides of the community.
A few practical notes for planning:
- Concept: sushi, skewers and small plates
- Seats: around 120, with tables inside and out and a bar seating about 12
- Omakase: a seven-seat sushi bar begins offering omakase Nov. 24
- Hours from Nov. 1: 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. lunch and 4:30–9:30 p.m. dinner, Monday through Saturday, with Sunday planned later
If you are the kind of resident who books a seven-seat omakase counter the moment reservations open, the calendar to circle is late November, not November 1.
Music on Main and the Rest of the August-Through-Fall Calendar
The first-Friday rhythm on Main Street is holding through the humid months. The August Music on Main features Silverback Rock N' Roll Band with proceeds to the Bradenton Woman's Club, and September's lineup is the Taylor Opie Band benefiting Manatee Children's Services. Both run 6 to 9 p.m., with local food vendors, beer trucks and sponsor booths, and proceeds benefiting a different nonprofit each month.
Two things residents forget until they park at the wrong lot: no coolers are allowed, dogs are welcome on a short leash, and overflow parking is at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
Waterside Place is running its own parallel programming. Sights + Sounds at Waterside Place brings Music Compound performing Heartbreakers on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Remy's on Main hosts live music Fridays and Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. with a rotating lineup of local artists. Allswell runs live DJ nights Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to close. The Sunday Farmers' Market at Waterside continues year-round.
The programming split is worth noticing. Main Street is a monthly-anchor rhythm built around Music on Main and now a proper pub. Waterside Place is a weekly-cadence spot with the market, plaza music, and later-night bar and DJ activity. If you are picking where to meet friends on a given evening, the question is no longer "downtown or UTC." It is which town center matches the tempo you want.
The Professional Parkway Buildout Is the Bigger Story
The change most residents underestimate is happening on the Sarasota County side of Lakewood Ranch, on and around Professional Parkway. An entertainment district envisioned years ago as part of Lakewood Ranch's long-term development strategy is coming to life on the Sarasota County side of the community.

The scale is easy to miss. The Lakewood Ranch Urban Air is 60,000 square feet, the biggest of 400 Urban Air locations in the country, with trampolines, mini-carts, a climbing area, laser tag, battle beams and a ninja course. Backyard Social owner Mat Baum and partner John Mann are aiming for a mid-November opening on a concept that is not quite a restaurant and not quite a bar, with food trucks permanently parked outside instead of a kitchen.
SkyTrack is the one to watch if you have kids old enough to want a go-kart birthday party. The track is being shipped from Europe and will use advanced barrier technology designed to absorb crash impacts, with about 14 months of total build time and a projected opening date of May 1, 2027. The entertainment district is expected to be built out by early summer 2027.
If you already have a Life Time membership from another city, you will want to note the late-2026 timing. The athletic country club is under construction next to Gold Coast Eagle Distributing on the other side of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard.
What This Actually Means for a Friday Night Here
Take a step back from the individual openings. What is happening is that Lakewood Ranch is developing three distinct evening personalities on three separate clocks.
Main Street is becoming the sit-down dinner and pub district. Delany's and the incoming Kuro Sushi join a stretch that already includes the cinema, Fish Hole mini-golf, and a first-Friday concert tradition that reliably draws families. It is the walkable option.
Waterside Place is the weekly-cadence lakeside quarter, anchored by the Sunday market, the plaza music series, Allswell, Korê Steakhouse and the incoming late-night rhythm around DJ nights. It is the option when you want water views and something new on the calendar every week.
Professional Parkway is turning into a family-and-fitness cluster that has nothing to do with either. When Backyard Social opens in November, when Life Time comes online later this year, and when SkyTrack rounds out the district in spring 2027, Lakewood Ranch will have a third node that competes with UTC for weekend afternoons in a way it never has before.
None of this is speculation on the part of a developer's brochure. It is what is under permit, what has a chef roster, what has a construction schedule, and what has a Music on Main lineup already booked through September.
