When looking for great shopping beyond downtown Sarasota, Morton’s Gourmet Market is a popular, family-owned grocery store stocking gourmet groceries as well as prepared foods. Morton’s is in Southside Village, a delightful neighborhood of shops and restaurants. Fishing enthusiasts can find all they need for a day out at All About Fishing, including bait and tackle, rods and reels, gear, and charters.
 
When it comes time to find a bite to eat, be sure to stop by Michael’s on East. Serving a menu full of upscale New American fare, Michael’s on East offers a refined dining experience. Connors Steak & Seafood is another elegant choice for dining, serving sophisticated steakhouse fare along with delicious seafood options. For delicious Italian fare, check out Cafe Baci, specializing in osso buco as well as many other Northern Italian dishes.

There are plenty of fun activities in the Sarasota area. Whether you want to spend some time out at the beach or park or you’re looking to go to a local event, there is something fun for everyone in Sarasota. 
 
For those that enjoy spending time outdoors, the following places are some of the best in the area. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has a beautiful campus in Sarasota that spans 15 acres in the former home of Marie and William Selby. Historic Spanish Point, also part of the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens network, is a 30-acre campus with a museum and environmental complex. Myakka River State Park spans a stunning 37,000 acres and is one of the state’s largest parks, with plenty of wildlife and coastal landscape to see. The Legacy Trail spans about 12 and a half miles and is the perfect place for a variety of activities, such as hiking, biking, and jogging.

Many great festivals and events are held in the area. One such event is the Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival, an annual event showcasing jewelry, pottery, and many more arts and crafts in a variety of media. Another popular event in the area is The Sarasota Seafood & Music Festival, an annual, family-friendly event with live music and fresh seafood with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Sarasota’s take on Oktoberfest, Rocktoberfest, is also a great place to hear live music, eat delicious food, and drink quality beer.
